March 2022 Update
April in West Sac? Maybe . . .

Set your taste buds on a streak sandwich, because your VBL board is tentatively setting our sights on returning to the Club Pheasant for our April 14 meeting. Yes, we’ve been disappointed too many times before with last-minute COVID cancellations, so you never know. Still, we’re optimistic. Watch your email for updates from the K-VBL news desk. Our guest speaker will be the new GM at KOVR, Deborah Collura.

If we’re able to hold an in-person luncheon meeting in April, it will be a hybrid affair, streaming live on Zoom for those unwilling or unable to come to an in-person event. Thank you to AV wizard Bud Kress for making this possible! Again, watch your email for updates as they become available.

Leadership Changes at VBL

A couple of new faces at VBL World Headquarters, as Anita Fein and Ward Koppel have both agreed to serve on the board of directors. Yay! Read more about Anita and Ward in the April newsletter. In the meantime, we have reluctantly accepted the resignation of VP Michael Guilliano, who has personal issues to attend to. Thank you, Michael, for all you’ve done to keep our beloved social club afloat this past year!

Three brief health updates:

Jim Drennan has become a resident leader at Sunrise of Carmichael care center; but has good/bad days. The center is allowing (fully vaccinated) visitors again. If you phone him (916-333-2996) and he doesn't pick-up after several tries, you may call the facility's concierge (916-485-4500) for assistance connecting.

Ron Middlekauff spent a week in hospital for gallstones and tests. He's home now pending further treatment; but asks peace & quiet at this time. [Don't we all!]

Stan Atkinson writes: "I’m better with no more pain in the back. The pain is realizing I have months to go before I’ll be able to solo…even with a walker. Rebuilding strength and balance is a slow roll after a big surgery and 3 weeks in a hospital when you’re 89. I’m up for it tho’. Always like the challenges…even that damnable PT."

Fun Times in February

What a great time we had at the February 10 VBL Zoom meeting! The highlight—a reunion of fabled KFBK morning show hosts Dave Williams and Bob Nathan. At bottom left, Dick Leeson celebrates the occasion by digging out a vintage Dave-n-Bob tee shirt, circa 1985, from his collection. Memories galore, including the time the duo rescued Rush Limbaugh from nearly drowning on a rafting trip on the American River. If you missed the meeting, never fear, a recording is available. Contact VBL Secretary Allen Chamberlin, vbl-geek@theguys.org for the link.
